A .過去簡單式：主詞(S)+過去式動詞+過去時間
1 )表活動或狀態在過去已開始和結束
例：She walked to school yesterday .
*大多數動詞的過去式形式是在字尾加 – ed，有些動詞則為不規則變化，須另外背誦。*
2 )規則動詞的過去簡單式

3 )BE動詞的過去簡單式

| 否定句 | I/ He/She/It was notat home yesterday .We/They/You were not at home yesterday . |
| 疑問句 | Was I/ He/She/It at home yesterday ?Were We/They/You at home yesterday ? |
B .過去進行式：主詞(S)+was/were+動詞ing
1 )表動作發生在過去的某個時間點(明確時間)
例：I sat at the dinner table at 6:00 . Tom came to my house at 6:10 .
→I was eating dinner when Tom came .
2 )表動作在進行時，另一個動作也正在進行
例：I went to bed at 10:30 . The phone rang at 11:00 .
→I was sleeping when the phone rang .
